Block By Block: Building Community Through Time, Space & Change
[Part of an event series to support practitioners working in public space and those applying to the Kenneth Rainin Foundation’s Open Spaces Program.]
A core part of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation’s Open Spaces Program is supporting projects that center community engagement. Join Sue Mark and Saturu Ned for a discussion about “Commons Archive.” You will learn about duration, endurance and navigating change, all within the framework of deep community engagement and building trusting relationships.
Initiated in 2013, “Commons Archive” is a grassroots history project addressing the dissolution of neighborhood networks by displacement and gentrification. By engaging residents of North Oakland's Golden Gate neighborhood, “Commons Archive” preserves and presents stories that illuminate the neighborhood's rich history, its culture, people, and institutions. The project was supported by the Open Spaces Program in 2019. More : http://www.commonsarchive.net
