THE FREEDOM RUN is a citywide 5K Run/Walk and Community Wellness Festival held in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Black Panther Party (and on the 100th anniversary of Black History Month). Rooted in the Panthers’ legacy of community care, health services, and empowerment, this event activates Oakland around health equity, access, and collective action.
The run invites participants of all ages and fitness levels to move through historic Panther landmarks, while the adjacent Wellness Festival provides free medical services, groceries, hygiene care, mental health support, family activities, and community resources.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact community event designed to uplift West Oakland and mobilize thousands toward a healthier, more equitable future.
